One might think I was a juggler, because I have quite a lot of hobbies and things that I am working on and towards all while maintaining a full-time job, that in of itself is working towards a career.

I created button404 to showcase my work and my progress in all of the things that I do. I also wanted to provide myself with the environment to create more things.

What are the different things that I juggle? Mainly a fixation on continuous learning, and I say that in full earnestness. If you poke around the site you will see that I am building skills, but I by no means have a mastery of any of them. My areas of focus are programming and design, fiber arts (sewing/knitting/spinning specifically), and baking. This sounds like a very broad spectrum, however they all lend together fairly well in ways you may not expect.

How do you get a loaf of bread to bake just right? First you follow the recipe, and then through iteration and testing you find what works best for exactly what you want in the conditions that your kitchen presents.

How do you get a pair of pants to fit just right? You first follow a pattern, and then through iteration and testing mock ups and ‘finished’ pieces you develop modifications to the pattern that make the fabric lay nicely while providing room where you need it.

I’ve learned programming much the same way, you start small, and go with what you know and can find first when creating something new to fill a specific need, and then through … you got it, iteration and testing you build what works best.

Why is my skill tree so diverse, and possibly a little random? Instead of focusing and dumping all of my skill points into one specific task? Because diversity is good, and my main goal in everything I do is to help improve what I can for those around me and my community.

Even though I am not a master in anything on display here, the skills I have gained have proven useful. So far, I’ve upgraded and built a better workflow for a team, majorly cut out my personal contribution to fast fashion, and helped to provide support to my community with masks and a warm loaf of bread during troubling times.

I hope you enjoy the content here on button404!
