Baking Highlights and Project Pause

If you are following along in the Building a Web Knitting Calculator project the next scheduled blog post is to discuss and go over the JavaScript aspect which makes the form ‘do the thing’. This is not the post you are looking for.

I have recently changed jobs, and my focus has actually been shifted to more JavaScript with this change. I’m currently taking a few quick courses to improve the practical application. With that in mind I wanted to take a moment before working up the next post in that project to see if there was a better way to make the knitting calculator work than what is currently up. Feel free to check out the current calculator here.

With that in mind, autumn is in the air and in three short months it will be 2022, however it still feels like it should be October 2020. For most of the last year I have been working from home, and basically staying within my own bubble of family and home life. So naturally I did a lot of experimental baking and sewing projects.

bread

The typical meme of the pandemic, I perfected an artisan bread recipe. Though the sour dough starter died very quickly. Recipe Here

Same bread, but with my grandmothers potato soup recipe.

I also tried my hand at pretzel bread, these rolls came out more like rolls with a very interesting and tasty crust than the traditional pretzel bread texture however. Recipe Here

Moving over to the sweets, did you know that the glaze on cinnamon rolls is just powdered sugar and cream? And you can mix in a little extra strong coffee to make it even tastier? Recipe Here

I’m just obsessed with these Russian pancakes, they are called syrniki and on top is sour cream and home made strawberry jam. They are like mini cheese cakes and honestly outshine any sweet breakfast food. I am now also seriously considering purchasing an instant pot in order to make farmers cheese, the main ingredient in syrniki. Recipe Here

Dreaming of fall, and in the first cold snap I also made whole wheat pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. I do believe that breakfast is my favorite meal after this post. Recipe Here.

And finally, not baking but I tried my hand at quilting. A full blog post will be coming about this process and how… it failed but I’m rolling with it.

Hope everyone has a safe and good spooky season, don’t forget to get vaccinated if you haven’t already.
